CNC Machining Custom Carbon Fiber Parts Details

FlexiTurn provides contract CNC machining services for custom carbon fiber components, manufactured directly from customer-supplied 2D and 3D CAD files. Using high-speed 3-axis CNC routers, PCD diamond tooling, and custom vacuum clamping, we produce precision composite parts with tight-tolerance profiles, internal pockets, slot arrays, keyhole cutouts, and controlled edge quality to minimize fiber fraying and delamination risk.

We support global OEMs and engineering teams with DFM analysis, fast prototype turnaround, and flexible production volumes without rigid minimum order quantities.

Engineering Review & DFM

Before machining, our engineering team reviews your drawings to optimize quality and cost:

  • Material weave, resin matrix, and laminate thickness
  • Internal corner radii, wall thickness, and tool accessibility
  • Hole diameter, slot dimensions, and true position tolerances
  • Edge chamfering, deburring, and protective sealing requirements

Our DFM feedback helps reduce delamination risks and improve machinability prior to production.

Machining & Processing Capabilities
  • High-Speed Composite Routing: PCD tooling cuts clean exterior contours and complex internal cutouts with minimal fiber pull-out and controlled micro-cracking.
  • Precision Drilling & Slotting: Optimized peck-drilling cycles with sacrificial backup plates maintain strict true-position hole pitch and reduce exit-side ply separation.
  • Internal Spline & Slot Milling: High-precision milling for intricate internal spline teeth, keyholes, and tight mating features.
  • 2D Edge Chamfering: Perimeter routing and edge chamfering remove sharp corners for safe handling and smooth sub-assembly fitment.
  • Protective Epoxy Edge Sealing: Optional resin sealing along cut edges protects exposed fibers from moisture absorption and mechanical delamination.
  • Integrated Metal Hardware Assembly: Custom CNC-turned brass, aluminum, or stainless steel threaded inserts and standoffs precision-pressed into carbon panels under one roof.
Materials & Sourcing

We machine customer-approved carbon fiber laminate sheets in standard thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 10.0 mm, with custom thicknesses available upon request. FlexiTurn can coordinate material sourcing with complete material certifications, and we also accept customer-supplied composite stock. Matrix options include epoxy, phenolic, and high-temperature resin systems.

Machining Tolerances

Profile contours and hole pitch: ±0.05 mm where specified
True position accuracy: controlled down to ±0.05 mm across multi-hole patterns
Edge finish: clean cut with minimized fraying and controlled delamination

Actual achievable tolerances depend on part geometry, sheet thickness, and laminate lay-up structure.

Quality Assurance & Verification

CMM dimensional inspection for hole pitch and critical contour tolerances
First Article Inspection (FAI) reports prior to batch production
In-process quality checks during routing, chamfering, and hardware installation
Material certification and dimensional inspection reports with every shipment
All manufacturing processes governed under our ISO 9001:2015-aligned quality management system

Industry Applications

Our carbon fiber machining services support:

UAV & Drone Systems: ground support components and non-flight-critical parts
Robotics & Automation: end-effector plates, lightweight arm links, and mounting panels
Motorsport & Automotive: prototype and non-safety-critical brackets and plates
Electronics & Scientific Instruments: non-implantable equipment panels and optical baseplates

From Prototype to Serial Production

Why Choose FlexiTurn? FlexiTurn Workshop FlexiTurn Logistics

Q1. What types of machining services do you offer?

We provide comprehensive CNC turning and milling services. FlexiTurn machines are equipped with 8-station programmable turrets and support both turning and 5-axis milling operations, making them suitable for everything from simple cylindrical parts to complex multi-axis components.

Q2. What materials can you work with?

We machine a wide range of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, plastics, and other engineering-grade materials. If you have a specific material in mind, just send us your requirements and we'll confirm feasibility.

Q3. What is your typical lead time?

Lead times vary depending on part complexity, quantity, and material availability. For prototypes and small-batch runs, we typically deliver within 5–10 business days. For high-volume production, we'll provide a customized schedule after reviewing your drawings. Contact us with your project details for an accurate timeline.

Q4. How do you price your services?

Pricing is based on several factors: material cost, machining time, tooling requirements, setup complexity, and order quantity. We offer competitive rates for both low-volume prototypes and high-volume production runs. Request a quote with your CAD files or drawings and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.

Q5. What quality control measures do you have in place?

We follow strict quality control procedures throughout the machining process. Our CNC systems support programmable precision down to 1 μm, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability. Every batch undergoes dimensional inspection before shipping, and we can provide inspection reports upon request.
