Precision CNC Machined Aluminum Components Details
FlexiTurn provides custom CNC turning and milling for black-anodized aluminum bulkhead fittings like those shown above. Each fitting features an externally threaded port with multiple O-ring grooves, an internal threaded bore, a threaded side branch port, a smooth through cross-hole, wrenching hex flats, and a base flange. FlexiTurn machines these components from certified 6061-T6 aluminum bar stock for fluid connection applications.
FlexiTurn selects 6061-T6 for its machinability, anodizing consistency, and low-to-mid pressure rating. For bulkhead fittings, leak-tight performance depends on O-ring groove dimensions, thread-to-bore concentricity, and side port position. Multi-setup machining can cause groove variation, misalignment, and uneven depth, leading to leakage. FlexiTurn uses datum-aligned turning and indexed drilling to minimize these risks and deliver repeatable seal geometry from prototype to production.
Machining Process & CapabilitiesFlexiTurn performs all core connector machining in-house.
CNC Turning: External thread, O-ring grooves, internal bore, internal thread, and base flange are turned from solid bar in a single setup, controlling thread-to-bore concentricity. O-ring groove width and depth are cut to specification on the CNC lathe.
Hex Milling: Wrenching hex flats are milled on a 3-axis machining center with the part held on a turned arbor, maintaining hex-to-bore alignment.
Indexed Drilling & Tapping: Side threaded port and opposite through cross-hole are drilled and tapped on an indexed fixture, controlling angular position relative to the main bore.
Surface Finish: Black Type II anodizing applied after machining; O-ring groove and thread dimensions are pre-compensated for coating thickness.
Materials & Dimensional SpecificationsStandard material: 6061-T6 aluminum, certified bar stock
On request: 304/316L stainless (higher pressure/corrosion), brass (fluid industry standard)
O-ring groove tolerance: ±0.02 mm on groove width and depth
External thread tolerance: ISO 6g / UN 2A standard
Thread-to-bore concentricity: ≤ 0.02 mm
Side port angular position: ±0.5° relative to main bore
Surface finish: Black Type II anodize
Maximum turning diameter: 300 mm
Why Choose FlexiTurnO-ring groove precision — groove width and depth controlled to ±0.02 mm on the CNC lathe, supporting correct seal compression from first article to production.
Datum-aligned turning and drilling — main bore and side port referenced to a common datum, minimizing cross-position drift.
Anodize pre-compensation — thread and groove dimensions held before coating so seal fit is preserved after black anodize.
Fluid-industry material matrix — 6061-T6 standard; stainless for higher pressure/corrosion; brass for fluid industry compatibility.
Prototypes to production — bar-stock machined parts, no casting tooling required.
