Surgical instruments are often made up of small mechanical components with specific dimensions, interfaces, and assembly requirements. These parts are rarely standard items that can be selected from a catalog, so the manufacturing process needs to follow the actual design of the instrument.

Components Made to Your Design
A surgical instrument component may need to work with a shaft, pivot, pin, handle, fastening system, or other mating component. Small dimensional differences can affect movement, assembly, or the overall fit of the instrument.
For this reason, FlexiTurn does not treat these components as standard CNC parts. We review the supplied drawing, 3D model, sample, material, critical dimensions, and manufacturing requirements to understand how the component needs to be produced.

From Samples and Drawings to Production
You can start with what you already have.
If you have a finished sample but no complete manufacturing drawing, FlexiTurn can work from the sample and your requirements. If you already have 2D drawings or 3D CAD files, our engineers can review the design before production and provide DFM feedback where manufacturing improvements are needed.
This approach is particularly useful for new instrument development, replacement components, and projects where the design continues to be refined during prototyping.
For projects requiring rapid sample development, FlexiTurn supports DFM review within 72 hours and sample production in approximately 5–10 days, depending on the component and project requirements.
Machining, Finishing and Assembly in One Workflow
The finished component may require more than CNC machining alone. Depending on your specification, secondary processes such as polishing, electropolishing, heat treatment, or assembly can be coordinated as part of the manufacturing process.
Inspection and material documentation can also be arranged according to project requirements, including CMM inspection, material spectral reports, COC and material traceability documentation, as well as PT, MT, or other NDT services when specified.
This gives medical device manufacturers a single manufacturing partner for the component instead of coordinating machining, finishing, inspection, and assembly separately.
