Precision CNC Turned Aluminum Components Details
FlexiTurn provides precision CNC mill-turn machining for aluminum alloy structural and connecting components, exemplified by the stepped flange sleeves with internal threads and radial cutouts shown. Grade 6061-T6 aluminum, the industry standard for precision motion parts, delivers high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent machinability and surface-controllable corrosion resistance.
Rotary components with radial features demand tight control over datum alignment, thread quality and indexed positioning. General shops’siloed multi-setup workflows cause cumulative runout error and defects; FlexiTurn’s unified-datum mill-turn process mitigates these failure modes, delivering repeatable dimensional accuracy from prototype through high-volume production.
Machining Process & CapabilitiesFlexiTurn executes the full production sequence in-house, with process parameters and tooling calibrated per aluminum grade and temper to ensure repeatable accuracy across every batch.
- CNC Turning: All coaxial rotational features – including inner/outer diameters, flange faces and internal threads – are machined with unified primary datums, ensuring true concentricity between bore, flange face and outer diameter. Rough and finish turning operations are separated to control residual stress and surface finish, with consistent thread form and pitch verified per batch.
- 4-Axis CNC Milling: Radial cutouts, weight relief slots, mounting holes and tapped features are machined on 4-axis CNC machining centers with continuous indexing. Single-fixture indexed machining eliminates cumulative positioning error from repeated re-chucking, ensuring accurate angular spacing of radial features relative to the central datum axis.
- Secondary Operations: Precision deburring, edge break and tapping are performed to specification. We also offer integrated fastener installation and sub-assembly services to deliver fully finished components ready for line integration.
- Surface Finishing: Vibratory deburring, bead blasting and Type II/III anodizing are available in-house to improve corrosion resistance and wear performance. Custom surface treatments and coatings are available on request.
FlexiTurn sources certified premium aluminum alloys, with full mill test certificates and complete batch traceability for every order.
- Standard materials: 6061-T6 aluminum alloy; 6063-T5, 7075-T6 and other grades available on request
- Maximum turning diameter: 200 mm
- Concentricity tolerance: ≤ 0.02 mm for features ≤ 100 mm nominal diameter, relative to central datum bore
- Thread tolerance: ISO metric thread: 6H (internal), 6g (external); precision grades available on request Indexed radial hole position tolerance: ±0.05 mm relative to datum axis
- Standard surface finish: As-machined Ra 1.6–3.2 μm; anodized, bead-blasted and custom finishes available on request
Why Choose FlexiTurn
Unified Datum Mill-Turn Precision
Most general machine shops process rotational parts on separate turning and milling equipment with multiple re-chucking steps, leading to cumulative runout and positional error that degrade assembly fit and functional performance. FlexiTurn’s integrated 4-axis mill-turn capability uses unified datum control to minimize setup transitions, delivering superior concentricity and indexed feature accuracy that standalone turning suppliers cannot reliably achieve.
Full In-House Process ControlAll operations — from turning and milling to finishing and final inspection — are performed on FlexiTurn’s premises with zero subcontracting. This reduces lead time variability, eliminates third-party margins and maintains direct oversight of every quality-critical step. Full material batch traceability is maintained from billet certificate to finished part, and all production adheres to our ISO 9001:2015-aligned quality management system.
Aluminum-Specific DFM Engineering SupportEvery CAD submission receives a complimentary Design for Manufacturability assessment within 24 hours, focused on aluminum machining characteristics and cost optimization. Our engineering team evaluates wall thickness transitions, thread specifications, radial feature spacing and material selection to mitigate machining distortion, reduce cycle time and maximize in-service part performance.
