Custom CNC Turned Brass Parts Details

FlexiTurn provides precision CNC turning services for custom brass components. These parts feature multiple stepped diameters, deep annular or spiral grooves, and axial bores. Every dimension, groove profile, and geometric tolerance is defined by your 2D or 3D CAD data. FlexiTurn is a CNC machining service provider, the parts you receive are machined to your drawing.

The service FlexiTurn delivers is the controlled turning process: converting your design into a functional brass component with defined groove depth, surface integrity, and bore alignment.

Machining Capabilities

Machining this type of grooved slender shaft presents specific manufacturing risks. The high length-to-diameter ratio of the part makes it prone to deflection under cutting forces, while the deep grooves create challenges for chip evacuation and burr control. FlexiTurn applies specific process controls to address these risks:

  • Slender Shaft Machining: For thin, elongated parts, we utilize Swiss-type CNC turning or rigid tailstock support to prevent deflection and maintain concentricity between stepped diameters and bores.
  • Deep Groove Machining: Specialized grooving inserts with optimized chipbreaker geometry are used to machine the deep annular or spiral features without tool chatter or breakage.
  • Chip Control & Coolant Delivery: High-pressure coolant is directed precisely at the cutting zone. This prevents brass chips from packing into the grooves and ensures a clean surface finish.
  • Burr Control: Free-cutting brass tends to create sharp burrs at groove edges. FlexiTurn applies controlled tool paths and secondary deburring to protect assembly personnel and mating components.

Material Selection

FlexiTurn machines these components from free-cutting brass alloys commonly specified for precision shafts and fittings:

C36000 (Free-Cutting Brass): The industry standard for high-speed machining. Excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance, and consistent surface finish.

C27200 / C28000: Suitable for applications requiring higher strength.

Lead-Free Brass (e.g., C27450): Available upon request for applications with RoHS or drinking water compliance requirements.

All raw materials are sourced from certified suppliers with documented mill test reports.

Tolerances & Quality

Typical machining capabilities for brass grooved parts:

  • Outside diameter & bore tolerances: ±0.01 mm to ±0.02 mm on critical features
  • Concentricity (Bore to OD): ≤0.02 mm TIR
  • Groove depth / width tolerance: ±0.02 mm
  • Surface roughness: Ra 0.8–1.6 μm as-turned; finer available with finish operations
  • General tolerances: ISO 2768-m

FlexiTurn performs in-process dimensional verification and final inspection on critical features. Material certificates and inspection reports are available upon request. The quality management system is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

Why Choose FlexiTurn

FlexiTurn is a China-based precision CNC machining service provider focused on custom engineered components.

Slender Shaft & Deep Groove Expertise: We understand the cutting forces required to machine complex profiles on thin brass shafts without bending or dimensional drift.

Chip and Burr Control: We manage the aggressive chip formation of free-cutting brass, ensuring grooves are clear and edges are safe to handle.

Multi-Axis Capability: If your part requires cross-holes or side milling, we can perform turning and milling in a single setup using C-axis live tooling.

DFM Review: We review your CAD data to check length-to-diameter ratios, groove aspect ratios, and tolerance stack-up before quoting.

Documented Traceability: Certified raw materials and inspection reports with every order.

FlexiTurn serves industries including consumer electronics, micro gearboxes, fluid control, and general industrial equipment.
