420 Stainless Steel Blanks

At FlexiTurn, we specialize in providing custom 420 Stainless Steel Blanks & Pre-Machining Services covering a full spectrum of product forms - including plates, round bars, tubes, and forged blocks across various supply conditions (Soft Annealed / Sphero-Annealed, or pre-quenched & tempered Q&T up to 50–55 HRC, covering 420J1, 420J2, and 420C variants) tailored to our customers' exact drawings and procurement specifications. Moving beyond traditional specialty steel suppliers who only sell full-length bars, heavy mill plates, or require high-volume mill orders, we offer a full suite of front-end pre-machining services: custom blank sizing, precision cut-to-length sawing (±0.1mm tolerance), cold NC waterjet/saw plate cutting, 6-side rough milling/squaring, inner/outer trepanning (preserving solid inner cores), pre-heat treatment (annealing/Q&T), and surface grinding or shot blasting.

420 Stainless Steel Blanks FAQs

When purchasing AISI 420 (UNS S42000 / 1.4021 / 1.4028 / 20Cr13 / 30Cr13) high-hardness martensitic stainless steel, overseas buyers frequently face high MOQs for specialty steel, expensive shipping fees for full heavy bars or plates (paying freight on dead-weight scrap), gummy tool-sticking in soft annealed states, extreme tool wear when roughing hardened tempers (50+ HRC), and a lack of local heavy-duty sawing or cold waterjet profiling equipment. We provide flexible, small-batch, cut-to-size 420 blanks with front-end pre-machining—including precision sawing, NC waterjet cutting, 6-side milling/grinding, trepanning, and optional pre-heat treatment. Clients receive ready-to-machine blanks that load directly into CNC equipment for final precision machining.
AISI 420 is a 12%–14% chromium martensitic stainless steel offering high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance, achieving 48–55 HRC after quenching and tempering. Common supply conditions include: Annealed (Spheroidized Annealed, HBW ≤ 225, ideal for heavy stock removal and complex CNC milling), and pre-heat-treated conditions like Q&T (Quenched & Tempered, such as 30–35 HRC or 48–52 HRC). Clients can flexibly select the optimal state based on their in-house machining capabilities and distortion tolerances.
Backed by fully certified import/export qualifications, all our 420 stainless steel is sourced directly from tier-1 primary specialty steel mills certified to ISO 9001 standards. Chemical composition (strictly matching carbon and chromium content for 420J1 or 420J2) adheres strictly to ASTM A276 / A473 (or EN 10088-3) specifications—never mixing scrap or inferior grades. Every blank is stamped or marked with its original furnace heat/lot number. When pre-heat treatment is requested, full hardness test logs are provided alongside an official EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Report (MTR) for 100% material traceability.
First, minimizing capital lockup on high-value specialty alloys—clients purchase exact pre-cut sizes for specific projects without buying full large-diameter forged bars or thick plates. Second, drastically reduced international freight costs—stripping surface scale and eliminating 30%+ of excess dead weight prior to shipping prevents paying freight on metal chips. Third, optimizing machining process workflows—clients can order pre-roughed blocks in annealed state to perform complex internal pocketing, or purchase pre-hardened Q&T blanks for direct high-precision finishing, completely avoiding part cracking and severe quenching distortion caused by post-machining heat treatment.
We deliver 420 blanks in various surface conditions upon request: Hot Rolled / Forged Pickled, Peeled Black Skin, Cold Drawn, 6-Side Milled, or Centerless Ground. Prior to dispatch, all blanks undergo thorough degreasing, light anti-rust oil coating, and protective wrap packaging. Following final machining, clients can apply chemical passivation or low-temperature polishing to enhance surface finish and corrosion resistance.
