The hexagonal-headed internally threaded stepped shafts shown demonstrate FlexiTurn’s CNC machining capabilities for Inconel nickel superalloys. Inconel’s severe work hardening, high shear strength, and built-up edge (BUE) formation lead to surface tearing, dimensional drift, and subsurface deformation under standard steel parameters. FlexiTurn deploys superalloy-dedicated tooling, optimized chip loads, and high-pressure coolant to suppress work hardening and preserve base material integrity.

Machining Capabilities & Processing

  • Single-Setup CNC Turning: OD steps, inner bore, internal thread, shoulders, and chamfers are machined in a single setup to eliminate re-clamping error and hold concentricity across features.
  • 3-Axis CNC Milling: Hexagonal head flats and chamfers are milled using indexed fixturing to ensure precise across-flats dimensioning and burr-free edge profiles.
  • Precision Indexed Drilling: Radial cross holes are drilled with calibrated indexing to maintain true position relative to the bore. Edges are deburred to eliminate stress risers.
  • Secondary Operations: Stress-relief heat treatment, pickling, passivation, and precision surface lapping available on request.
